Welcome to KWSixth a new Sixth Form in Harpenden that opened in September 2024. It is a comprehensive platform specially designed for prospective and current students aged 16 and above. At KWSixth, we believe that achieving your academic goals while prioritising your wellbeing is key to unlocking your future. Join us and embark on a transformational journey of academic growth and personal wellbeing.
We understand how interconnected academic success and personal wellbeing are as you navigate the challenges of early adulthood. Our mission is to equip you with the tools and resources to excel in both areas. Together we will support you to reach your full potential and to thrive in every aspect of life.
KWSixth is a world of endless possibilities. You have the opportunity to decide to shape your future in extraordinary ways. Your determination, curiosity and passion have led you to be reading this and now you have the opportunity to embrace your KWSixth future with courage and enthusiasm. Be inspired, be curious, be happy. You have a unique opportunity to carve out your own pathway and destination in a new, inspiring KWSixth, where you are treated as an individual, embraced for who you are and what you will be, never just a statistics above or below a pass line or grade boundary.
Advanced studies (A LEVELS AND BTecs) are not just about exam grades. They are about discovering your true passions, honing your skills, and developing a deep understanding of the subjects that ignite your curiosity. The next two years at KWSixth present an opportunity for you to explore subjects, take risks, and discover yourself.
You will be surrounded by like minded peers, supported by educational and wellbeing experts, in a nurturing environment. In the last 5 years, secondary schools in Harpenden and St Albans have massively expanded their sixth forms, with new students helping to balance the financial pressures of under funding and rising costs. This was one of the main reasons the Department of Education funded the growth and development of KWSchool, in order to alleviate this demand and supply imbalance, championing both quality and quantity and ensuring that we work together with our consortium partners for the benefit of young adults in the area. To that end we accept all applications from our existing KWStudents who meet our admissions threshold and will continue with that pledge as KWSixth develops and builds towards our capacity of 250 students across Years 12 and 13. New students wishing to join KWSchool in the sixth form are very welcome to apply and much like the initial years of the lower school, it is anticipated that our facilities will accommodate all initial application numbers who meet our admissions criteria in our opening years.
We aim to provide a wide selection of courses as well as a learning environment that enables our students to succeed and leave KWSixth thoroughly prepared for the next steps in their lives. We passionately believe in promoting intellectual rigour, personal resilience and leadership. In order to achieve this, each student understands their commitment and agrees to work hard, be part of the KWS community, make a positive contribution to it and take responsibility for their choices and actions. There are no short cuts to academic success in sixth form. It requires application and dedication.
