Entry Requirements + Subjects offered
Entry is based on your GCSE results. To study 3 A levels at KWS, the entry requirement is an Average Point Score (APS) of 4.5 or above. To only study vocational qualifications (BTec or CTec) an APS of 3.85 or above is needed.
In order to calculate your APS focus on your highest scoring 6 GCSE results & your English Language & Maths results. A Grade 9 is worth 9 points etc. So your average points scored for your 8 GCSE results would be all the points added together divided by 8. You need to include Maths and English Language grades as these cannot be discounted. However each subject also has a minimum grade requirement which must be met.

Subject selection
Students tend to excel at subjects they enjoy and enjoy the subjects they do well at. So the first steps in decision making are based around what subjects you enjoy and do well at. Next, think about what you may wish to do beyond Sixth Form and identify if certain subjects are required. Please avoid the temptation of selecting courses that your friends are taking or that a favourite teacher intends to teach. Friends and teachers change, but your subject selection locks you into a study programme that cannot change. Remember, it is essential to reflect on your interests, strengths and long-term goals when making any decisions about your future. Please seek guidance from staff, family and careers advisers to make informed choices that align with your future aspirations. The entry criteria above are designed to help us ensure that students study courses which they will enjoy and succeed in. We expect to offer all the courses listed, subject to demand. Should any courses be undersubscribed, we reserve the right to withdraw them from our curriculum offer. In July 2024, the new Labour government announced a “short review” of post-16 qualification reforms at level 3 and below. The Department for Education has stated that the review will examine the planned reforms and conclude before the end of the year. In response to this upcoming publication, we reserve the right to make amendments to our curriculum offer if required.
