What is the KWS Academics Programme?
Here at Katherine Warington School we pride ourselves on our rich abundance of extracurricular and supercurricular activities, designed at challenging and extending our pupils’ learning beyond the classroom. However, we believe that students should be rewarded further for their efforts and as such we created the Academics Programme.
This is a non-selective scheme of work that students can complete, over the course of a year, to become an Academic in the chosen subject. Students can choose from any subject, and they will be asked to download the relevant ‘task-table’ and required to complete twelve out of sixteen activities to gain the award.
Why should I become an Academic?
Participation in the Academics Programme is the ideal avenue to showcase your passion and desire to learn more about certain subjects. Additionally, dedicating yourself to challenges beyond the classroom demonstrates your ambition and willingness to improve, qualities we value highly here at KWS. These are valuable skills that colleges, universities and future employers will look at, alongside a body-of-work that you can showcase for it.
Successful completion will result in a prestigious Academics badge, which you can proudly display on your uniform, and access to a range of talks, activities and even trips later in the year!
However, perhaps most importantly, the Academics Programme is designed to be fun! These tasks come in a variety of forms and will expose you to brand new opportunities and resources.
How do I become an Academic?
Linked below are the ‘task tables’ for each subject; please ensure you select your relevant year level.
Once you have chosen a subject, print off the sheet and begin collecting your evidence! Each activity will need to be signed off by your subject teacher, once you have shown them your evidence.
Having completed twelve tasks (please feel free to do all sixteen), you need to bring the sheet to Mr Houghton so that he can sign it off and award you your badge.
How many subjects can I choose?
There is no limit on the number of subjects you can choose from, however please be mindful that selecting too many may result in you struggling to complete them. Last year we had nearly 100 Academics successfully complete their tasks across all of the subjects; thirty students achieved two badges, fifteen achieved three, and two managed to complete four!
