Our aim in Geography is to open pupils’ eyes to the physical world around us by creating an understanding of the characteristics and processes of geographical phenomena. Equally, we build an awareness of the inter-relationships between mankind and their environments, both locally and globally.
Vision/Intent
We will explore unfamiliar parts of the world, build curiosity and skills of enquiry around geographical topics as well as challenges that affect current students and future generations. Throughout this course, pupils will delve into significant geographical concepts, such as climate change, and improve their geography-specific skills so they’re able to write about subject issues is an informed and connected way.
During Year 7 and 8 students undertake two lessons of geography a week. They will Focus on both human and physical geography throughout.
Year 7

Introduction to Map skills including understanding Ordnance Survey maps
Students will gain an understanding of the different environments around the world by looking at the location, characteristics, conditions and adaptations for each one. |
Students will explore China looking at many different factors including its economic development |
Students will explore the characteristics of ecosystems around the world
Students will study the different features of the river from source to mouth and complete a fieldwork study on the River Lea. |
Year 8

Students will study the makeup of the earth including the plate boundaries and the impact this has on us, including Earthquakes, Volcanoes and Tsunamis.
Students investigate the different development indicators and how they affect world economics. |
Students will explore the physical and human processes that take place on the coasts to shape and manage the landscape. .
Students will study the different types of weather experienced in the UK and understand climatic zones across the world. |
Students will study reasons for the increase in global population and show links between physical features and population distribution.
Students focus on physical and human features, environmental regions and major cities. |
Enrichment/Extra-Curricular
Students can access a range of additional resources through both Google Classroom and the Student Google Site to help develop their own emerging interest in geography.
Additionally, P7 options offer a range of enrichment such as Travel Club and Geography Club. In the future, we hope to be able to visit places to see geography in action and complete fieldwork including the River Lea and the coast.
