Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
Katherine Warington School’s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Department works in collaboration with other departments in the school to offer support to students with SEND. KWS provides the ‘Ordinarily available provision’ as stated in the Department for Education’s (DfE) SEND and Alternative Provision Improvement Plan. This describes the provision that a local authority expects to be made available for children and young people with SEND in mainstream schools, and colleges from within their own resources, in line with all secondary mainstream schools in Hertfordshire.
KWS aims to support students with special educational needs by seeking to remove barriers to learning and participation, ensuring all students have access to an appropriate education that affords them the opportunity to achieve their personal potential.
As a school we are committed to the belief that every child is an individual who is an asset to the school community. All students, regardless of ability, background or ethnicity, have the right to participate in and enjoy all aspects of school life, and have the opportunity to meet their full potential.
The Learning Support Faculty is led by the SENCo, Mrs Grainger. We have a small team of Learning Support Assistants , who work with students in lessons or provide interventions outside the classroom.
Admissions for all students to KWS are handled through the Local Education Authority, including students with an Education and Health Care plan, those with disabilities and Looked after Children.
