Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
Katherine Warington School is an inclusive school and the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Department works in collaboration with other departments in the school to offer support to students with SEND. KWS aims to support students with special educational needs by seeking to remove barriers to learning and participation, ensuring all students have access to an appropriate education that affords them the opportunity to achieve their personal potential. We work collaboratively with outside agencies ensuring specialist advice and provision supports effective teaching and learning.
As a school we are committed to the belief that every child is an individual who is an asset to the school community. All students, regardless of ability, background or ethnicity, have the right to participate in and enjoy all aspects of school life, and have the opportunity to meet their full potential.
The Learning Support Faculty is led by the SENCo, Mrs Grainger with the assistance of Mrs Eyley the deputy SENCO. We have a team of Teaching Assistants with training and experience of supporting students with a variety of needs such as Autism, Speech, Language and Communication Difficulties, Visual and Hearing Impairments and literacy difficulties.
Admissions for all students to KWS are handled by the Local Education Authority, including for students with Education, Health and Care plans, disabilities and Looked after Children.
