Football
We wanted to acknowledge the Year 10 boys’ football team for their valiant efforts in the recent County Cup final versus Chauncy on 24th April. Despite taking a 2-1 lead in the game, unfortunately Chauncy proved too strong and prevailed 4-2. Massive credit and respect to the boys for going toe-to-toe with an excellent side and keeping the game highly competitive throughout. As a group, they have been a joy to coach and played some of the best school football that I have experienced as a teacher of 15 years – reaching the latter rounds of both the National and County Cups. Thank you very much also to all the staff, parents and students that supported the boys on the day.
Athletics
Well done to all the students who have competed in athletics over the last month. The majority of those selected placed either first or second in their event.
A fantastic start to the county league athletics campaign over the last few weeks for a number of our Years 7-10 students. Stand out performances from the event last week included: Jessie T, who achieved 1st in the discus and 2nd in hurdles. Rose S, who finished 2nd in the triple jump. Meanwhile, Heather G came first in the high jump and Izzy B came 2nd in the 100m. Well done all!
Following on from this, at Wednesday’s meet in St Albans, the following students achieved excellent results, finishing in first place: Callan A (1500m), Noah E (300m), Usman I (100m), Freddie S (800m), Sophia J (Long Jump), Charlie W (1500m), Ella P (1500m), Heather G (300m), Jessie T (hurdles), Yakub C (hurdles), Ben K (discus) and the U14 boys’ and U16 girls’ relay teams. Hugely impressive! Well done to all students that participated generally too.
Tennis
Well done to the U13 girls tennis team – Lila L, Beatrice W, Rebecca S and Hannah D who played some highly competitive matches vs STAHs on Tuesday. It was great to see some brilliant team work throughout.
