Spring Concert: 11th March 2026 7pm to 9pm

February 13, 2026/in Whole School/by Chrissy Dicks

We are delighted to announce that our Spring Concert will take place on Wednesday 11th March, and it promises to be a fantastic evening of music-making from across the school.

This year’s concert will showcase the breadth and talent of our musicians, with performances from our orchestra, choir and soloists across multiple year groups. Highlights will include powerful orchestral arrangements with music from Wicked and How to Train Your Dragon, alongside a range of solo and ensemble performances from our Year 10 and Year 11 students, demonstrating both musical skill and confidence.

Our choir will also take to the stage, joined by a variety of additional performances that celebrate the diversity and energy of Music at KWS. Whether you enjoy large-scale ensemble pieces or more intimate solo performances, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

Further information, including details on how to purchase tickets, will be shared with parents and carers after half term. We look forward to welcoming you to another memorable evening of live music and celebrating the hard work and dedication of our students.

Period 7: Enabling the Leaders of Tomorrow

January 30, 2026/in Whole School/by Chrissy Dicks

This term, we have many Period 7 sessions running which are driven by the vision and leadership of our students themselves. From global diplomacy to high-level engineering, students are no longer just participants: they are the architects of their own enrichment.

The diversity of the sessions is a testament to student ambition. Model United Nations has seen such a surge in popularity that it now convenes twice weekly, while an Engineering program is successfully navigating its second block of hands-on innovation. Meanwhile, in the Mathematics department, a select group of Year 9 students are tackling high-level challenges in pursuit of the prestigious Algebra Award.

The initiative isn’t limited to traditional academics. Responding to a request from the Prom Committee, we have launched a dedicated creative session for Year 11s to design bespoke accessories and decorations for their June celebration. This oversubscribed Thursday session has become a hub of creativity, proving that when students take the lead, engagement follows.

Beyond the subjects themselves, these sessions are developing vital leadership skills, allowing our students to invest in their own community while gaining experiences that go far beyond the standard curriculum.

Inclusive Sports

It was great to get our inclusive table cricket lunchtime club up and running last Friday. We were delighted to see so many students attend and participate so well! We look forward to participating in a table cricket festival on the 11th February.

Netball

Well done to the U15B netball team on a 16-13 win against Beaumont. The player of the match was Eden G. They then followed this up by beating Marlborough 20-7, with player of the match being Rose S.

Basketball

Well done to the Year 7 basketball team for an improved performance against St Columba’s last Friday.

Football

Congratulations on a 3-0 win for a mixed U12/U13 girls’ side against St Columba’s with a hat trick for Hannah C. Great to see some new faces playing too!

Our Year 7 girls’ football team had a tough fixture against Loreto in the district cup, but credit to the girls for persevering throughout.

The weather held off for our first Saturday football fixtures of the season for the boys against St Columba’s 2 weeks ago. Particularly good performances from Years 8 and 10, with lots of boys getting valuable game time. Special mention to Ayaan M (Year 10) for a very well taken hat trick.

A tough afternoon last week for our Year 7 boys in the county cup quarter final against Aldenham. The boys did very well to get to that stage of the competition in their first year at secondary school.

Well done to our Year 9 boys’ football team on an excellent 5-2 win against Verulam in the district cup. Goal scorers were Lucas W, Ryan C, Jayden J-B, Jojo J and Josh R. Player of the match was Josh R.

Lastly, an excellent win for our Year 10 boys’ football team in the county cup quarter final, claiming a 4-1 victory against a good Queen’s team. Goal scorers were Ed J x2, Ayaan M and Juan J-B. They are now into the semi finals of the county competition for the third time in three years, which is a superb achievement.

They also followed this up with a battling 6-1 win in the first round of the district cup against Verulam. On a really challenging surface and after going a goal down early on, the boys embodied the character values of the school against a physical Verulam side. Goal scorers included Finlay R x 2, Ed J x2, Ayaan M and Alex T, but everyone dug deep for the cause.

Period Health and Wellbeing

January 29, 2026/in Whole School/by Chrissy Dicks

Please see the information about heavy periods from Brook (an amazing health and wellbeing charity), and share with your teenager if needed. This is a topic we cover in PSHE here at KWS, and is something that should be discussed rather than avoided, in order to ensure our pupils get the support they may need.
