Student Leadership Team
Our student leadership opportunities were created to encourage all of our students to have a voice, to help shape and progress their school environment and to get more involved in the areas or subjects in the school they are passionate about.
Obtaining a student leadership position is a great way to develop leadership, communication and teamwork skills. Our student leadership team is made up of 2 Head Students; 3 Deputy Head Students and a team of 27 prefects from Year 10. The Student Leadership Team was appointed at the end of last academic year following a formal application and interview process; and will continue with their respective positions until the end of next academic year (2023/24).
It is the roles and responsibilities of our Student Leadership Team to represent the school, speak in assemblies, lead the school’s fundraising efforts in collaboration with our House Captains, support members of staff, be role models to all students and lead the student voice. As well as these responsibilities, our Student Leadership Team support their fellow students every lunchtime in the following ways:
- Friendship Club for Y7s & 8s: Support any student who is feeling lonely, seeking advice on friendships and making new friends.
- Social Skills Clubs: Support students develop their social skills and be visible safe people around school
- Homework Club: Support younger students with their home learning and independent studies (after school)
- Y7 & 8 Sports: Lead games of football, netball, rugby, basketball for younger students
- Library: Support the Library and students who use, work and socialise in the library
Meet our Head Students
Hello, my name is Becky Dowse and I have the honour of representing KWS as one of the Head Students. I applied for the position as I wanted to support my fellow students and make the school a welcoming place that everyone can be proud of. I also want to leave the school knowing that I have made a positive impact and given something back in return for all the school has done for me. I’m proud to be representing the school alongside our brilliant Prefects and Student Leadership Team, and hope that with their help we can contribute to the ongoing growth and success of the school, promote the student voice and strengthen the school’s community. As Head Student, I strive to be approachable, supportive, respectful and always ready to listen, so please feel free to speak to me if there’s anything I can do to help. Thank you for taking the time to read this, I hope that you have a positive experience at our school.
Hi, my name is Harry Hare, and I’m one of the two Head Students here at KWS. I applied for the position of Head Student because I felt like it was my turn to take on responsibility. Along with many other applicants, the process of deciding the Student Leadership Team began. First, everyone applying to be a Prefect, Head Student/ Deputy Head Student or house captain wrote a letter to our Headteacher, Mr Smith, saying why we feel as if we’d be suitable for the role. Then, we were interviewed individually, and finally, I received the news that I had been chosen to be Head Student. I’m incredibly grateful to have this opportunity and I plan to work with everyone to make the school a better place by representing the school at events and also raising money for our Katherine Warington community. I aim to be approachable, working with people to implement ideas to better our school. We have a great team of Prefects, House Captains and Head Students who I’m extremely lucky to work with. Thanks for taking the time to read this about what we do, and I hope you enjoy looking through our website.
