Student Leadership Team
At KWS, we are committed to empowering our students to become confident, responsible, and proactive members of our school community. Our student leadership structure ensures that every student has a voice and a genuine opportunity to influence and shape school life.
Our aim at KWS is that every student, from year 7 to 13 demonstrates leadership and the core values of the school which are being Ready, being Responsible and being Respectful. This can be seen in their intercations with one another and with staff, their learning in lessons and in their general conduct around our school. These values are epitomised by our head students and by our student council who lead by example every day.
Head Students
Each academic year, four Head Students are selected from Year 12 (who become Year 13 leaders). These students serve as the face of the student body and take on a range of responsibilities, including:
• Leading the Student Council
• Speaking at school assemblies and major events
• Acting as ambassadors for the school
• Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to bring about positive change
• Our Head Students are chosen for their leadership skills, communication abilities, commitment to representing their peers with integrity and enthusiasm, and for their ability to demonstrate the key values of being Ready, Responsible and respectful.
Student Council
The Student Council is a key platform for student voice. It is made up of two representatives from each house/form group across every year. These representatives:
• Gather feedback and ideas from their peers
• Discuss student-led initiatives and concerns in termly meetings
• Collaborate with Head Students to set priorities
• Play an active role in shaping the student experience
• Through regular meetings, council reps ensure that all students have a say in how the school is run and help create an inclusive, vibrant school culture.
• There is the opportunity to apply for the role of student councillor every academic year.
Year 11 Prefect Team
Our Year 11 Prefect Team plays a vital role in supporting the wider school community. Prefects are selected for their maturity, reliability, and positive attitude. Their key responsibilities include:
• Mentoring and supporting students in Year 7 and Year 8 form groups
• Performing lunchtime duties to help maintain a safe and respectful environment
• Assisting at key events such as Parents’ Evenings, Open Days, and other whole-school functions
• Prefects act as positive role models and help foster a sense of belonging and support for younger students as they transition through school life.
