This term, our Year 7 students have been taking part in form-time anti-bullying workshops.
They have explored the different types of bullying, created inspiring anti-bullying posters, and written their own form pledges to promote kindness and respect.
Across the rest of the school, students are participating in assemblies this week under the theme ‘Power for Good’, reminding us all that each of us has the ability to make a positive difference.
Every year, bullying impacts the lives of countless young people and silence helps it grow. That’s why this Anti-Bullying Week we are empowering young people to use their Power for Good to safely speak up and raise awareness when they see bullying, face to face or online. Lasting change needs all of us. From playgrounds to parliament, our homes to our phones – we all have a part to play.
Together, we can use our Power for Good to end bullying – for good.
We may only be a few weeks into the academic year, however, there is already so much amazing progress that we are seeing in literacy across the various subjects. We know that having strong literacy skills allows our students to succeed at KWS and it was so lovely to see some of our students taking pride in their literacy on a recent learning walk.
Outside of the classroom, we have also seen massive engagement with literacy initiatives already! Our Year 7 students were very involved in the Summer Challenges set on Transition day and it has been lovely to see so many of our Year 7 and Year 8 students completing their reading trackers.
As the school year continues to ramp up, please make sure that we continue to take pride in our literacy skills.

The past two weeks have seen our Year 11 students navigate their crucial mock examination fortnight, and we are absolutely delighted with their efforts and the mature way they approached this significant challenge.
We want to extend a huge congratulations on your exemplary conduct throughout the exam period. The atmosphere in the exam halls was one of serious focus and silent determination. It takes discipline to sustain concentration over so many different papers, and you all handled it brilliantly. This level of maturity shows you are well on your way to being ready for the main exams in the summer.
A special mention must also go to your presentation. Maintaining high standards of school uniform during such a stressful period demonstrates your respect for the school environment and your commitment to doing your best. You looked smart, professional, and ready for business every day – well done!
Keep the Revision Momentum Going
These mocks were an essential stepping stone, giving you invaluable practice and feedback. Now that the papers are over, the real work of reflection and improvement begins.
Analyse your results: When you receive your grades during the mock results day, use them to pinpoint strengths and weaknesses.
Focus on feedback: Use the specific feedback from your teachers to refine your subject knowledge and exam technique.
Maintain your routine: Don’t let the intensity drop off. Keep up the consistent revision habits you established over the past few weeks. Little and often is key to long-term memory retention.
We are incredibly proud of your hard work and positive approach. Keep focusing on that final goal, and remember that your teachers are here to support you every step of the way.

It’s been a very exciting week in the library for our year 7 students. At the start of their journey with us they were all gifted a copy of Lesley Parr’s book, Fallout, to read as a whole year group. And this week we were very lucky to have Lesley come and visit us! She talked to all the students in year 7 about the writing and publishing process, and about how the artwork for the cover was selected. The students were very engaged, and hopefully they gained a deeper connection with the book as a result.
She also ran writing workshops for the students who had entered the challenges associated with the book, over the summer holidays.

This week in the library we are also displaying our collection of books about the important role women had in World War 2 as part of the Remembrance Day commemorations, along with our most engaging non-fiction books to support Non-Fiction November, an initiative being supported and promoted by The National Literacy Trust. This initiative aims to provide young people with the opportunity to explore non-fiction texts, which research shows plays a vital role in helping them to learn about the world around them. We’re also promoting our books on bullying, in support of anti-bullying week. We have books to support you if you feel you are being bullied, if you witness bullying or you suspect someone you know is struggling with bullying. Feel free to drop in and pick up one of our easily accessible texts.
On Monday, the KWS Debating Team participated in an excellent event hosted by St George’s, engaging in five debates – one junior, two intermediate, and two senior – on a diverse range of topics. Among these were discussions on the sustainability of electric cars, and the extent to which celebrities should have influence in politics. All students did brilliantly, with stand-out performances by Rebecca S in Year 8, and Gabi D and Sophie H in Year 11, who received individual awards too. Well done to all!
Our Year 11 GCSE Business students had a fantastic opportunity to visit the Bank of England this week. The trip provided them with a genuine insight into how the Bank operates, its fascinating history, and the crucial role it plays in managing the UK economy.
Students explored the museum’s interactive displays and participated in discussions about key topics, including inflation, interest rates, and their impact on people and businesses every day. It was a great chance to see how what they learn in class connects to real-world situations.
One student summed it up perfectly: “Being able to experience the history of the Bank and learn a lot about the economic climate helped me understand the links between inflation and interest rates.” – Will R in Year 11
Overall, it was an inspiring and eye-opening day that brought business studies to life, leaving students with a deeper understanding of how the economy really works.

On Friday 7th November, Year 12 pupils were off timetable to look at various topics within our Key Stage 5 PRE and PSHE curriculums. Within their form groups, pupils had three hour long sessions with the amazing team from STEP, and looked at the topics of Ethical Shopping, Why Bother? and Identity. The fourth session was learning about Animal Sentience (consciousness, emotions, self-awareness and cognitive ability) and considered how and why we as humans treat some animals differently – some with love and respect, and others with little consideration. Overall, it was a hugely successful day with pupils demonstrating great engagement in topics that really made them think about how we act as a society, as well as who we are as individuals.
