York Trip

July 3, 2026/in Whole School/by Keris McCormick
Northern Adventures: Students Beat the Heat on Historic Yorkshire Trip!
During Enrichment Week, the English faculty set off on an unforgettable educational journey to York and Haworth. While the south of England sweltered in a massive heatwave, our group successfully escaped the worst of the temperatures by heading north for a packed itinerary of literature, history, and discovery.
Our first major stop took us to the beautiful, hilly village of Haworth to visit the famous Brontë Parsonage Museum. Students stood inside the very rooms where classic novels like Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights were written. Seeing the sisters’ original belongings and looking out at the dramatic Yorkshire moors brought their English curriculum to life in a truly inspiring way, especially for our Year 12s who study Wuthering Heights at A Level English Literature.
Medieval Marvels and Time-Travelling in York
Next, we headed into the historic city of York, where two incredible sites awaited us. In York Minster, students were awed by the sheer size of this stunning Gothic cathedral. Stepping inside provided some much-needed cool shade and allowed everyone to marvel at the world-famous stained-glass windows and towering stone ceilings. The Jorvik Viking Centre was also a massive highlight! Students climbed aboard an interactive ride that transported them back to the year 975 AD. They experienced the sights, sounds, and famously authentic (and smelly!) odours of a real Viking village, making history incredibly fun and interactive.
Despite the unusually hot summer weather, our students showed fantastic resilience and curiosity. The thick stone walls of the historic buildings and the cooler northern breezes kept everyone comfortable and energised. It was a fantastic trip filled with brilliant learning, excellent behaviour, and wonderful memories. A huge thank you to all the staff and students who made this northern expedition such a resounding success!
