Sports Update
There have been numerous sporting events over the last few weeks.
We had an enjoyable and insightful day with our Year 9 GCSE PE group at The University of Hertfordshire. We got to use their sports science lab, as well as some testing equipment typically used by professional athletes. It hopefully also gave students an insight into studying a sport course in the future and experiencing what student accommodation is like too.
In cricket, Year 7 gave an excellent performance, progressing through to the next round of the district cup. The boys bowled well and after a slow but disciplined batting start, Bertie came in to assist Billy and hit the ball very cleanly to see the team through. This represents the first KWS cricket win in our very short history!
Over the last few weeks, we have been holding an internal tennis tournament for each year group. Congratulations to Tim B in Year 7, Jai B in Year 8 and Toby B in Year 9 for winning the school tennis tournament in their respective year groups. Clearly there is something in having a surname beginning with B at KWS!
Finally, our summer fixtures concluded with the All Day Athletics Championships last week at Woodside Athletics Track in Garston. There were a number of stand out out performances with a number of personal bests being smashed in the process. Especially notable performances were from Isla McD and Ollie T in Year 8 for trying the hurdles for the first time and showing great resilience – a very tough event indeed. Also, Belle W for representing Year 9 in both the 1500m and the high jump despite being in Year 8.
Well done also to the medal winners: silver medals for Olivia W in the javelin, Jessica H in the high jump, Nathan T in the triple jump and then bronze medals for Oscar Ch in the javelin and George P in the 1500m.
