Summer School 2021 Statement
Our aim of the programme was to deliver a week long Summer School for new students joining us in September 2021 and also offer a Catch-up Summer School for those students already at the school who had been identified as requiring additional intervention.
The Summer School for current students took place from the 26th July – 30th July with 29 students attending. The Summer School for new Year 7 students took place from the 23rd August – 27th August with 148 students attending.
Students were able to attend a number of sessions in English, Maths and Science as well as Languages , Art and Computing. In the afternoon a sporting activity was delivered by Menace Sports. A free lunch was provided for all students every day during summer school. All students were also provided with a series of Revision Guides and a Reading Book.
The summer school staff team consisted of 15 members of staff who were employed by the school who have a range of skills. We had an art specialist teacher, 2 maths teachers and 2 english teachers, and 3 teaching assistants as well as members of the Pastoral Team.
We invited all our new pupils who were going to start at Katherine Warington School in September 2021. The purpose of inviting our new pupils was to support them with their transition which had become challenge as they have not had the opportunity to experience what it is like at Katherine Warington School and also to meet each other and the some of the staff they will be working with in September 2021.
The cost of the summer school was met by the DFE Summer School funding. We claimed £44380.00 from the DFE fund. The funding was used to cover staffing and to purchase the resources needed for the summer school including the Food and the external sporting activities.
