The Eco-committee are campaigning to stop car idling and reduce air pollution.
Idling is a very pressing issue in the county of Hertfordshire, and it contributes heavily and negatively to the ‘ozone layer’. Exhaust fumes emitted contain C02 – a greenhouse gas which are gases that go into the atmosphere and decay the ozone layer – the invisible barrier between us and the sun. If you’re wondering why each summer is getting so much hotter, it’s because of global warming.
According to scientists, this summer was the coolest summer we will have in our lifetimes. To help slow down this heat massively, you can help by avoiding sitting in your car with the engine on whilst idle (staying still) as this still emits CO2. This also uses more fuel and increases your carbon footprint. Keeping your engine running when you’re stationary is illegal in the UK.
What can we do to stop the impact of this problem?
When nobody in your car is driving, turn the engine off.
Instead of listening to music in your car you can read a book.
Thank you for looking after the health of our students.
