How is Secondary School different to Primary School?
“In secondary school you have more responsibilities. You have to get to lessons on time, make sure you have the right books for the right lessons, and the work is harder too. But, you get to use much more interesting equipment in secondary school, and you can make so many new friends, and although a secondary school may sound big, you will find your way around it in no time.”
“In Secondary School you have to be a little more independent and organised as there will be much more work but don’t worry because teachers will guide you.”

“The work is harder, there are more people so you have the potential to make more friends and you have a different teacher for each subject.”
“In secondary school you need to be more organized and ready to chase your dreams.”

“Secondary school lessons are different because you will move around for each lesson and have different teachers specially dedicated to that subject. I find the lessons more interesting.”
What is it like being a student at the beginning of a brand new school?
“It’s really fun to be a student at a brand new school because you get to make even more new friends.”
“At a brand new school you get to help build the community and make it great. It is an amazing opportunity.”
“It can be nerve wracking at first, but you get to meet new people and make friends you might have for life.”
What does a “typical” day of lessons look like?
“7 lessons a day, a hardworking but fun day”
“School starts at 8:30, then you have Form time (25mins), Two lessons (50 mins each), a breaktime (20mins), Two lessons (50 mins each), Lunch break (45mins), Two lessons (50mins each), Period 7 or Form Time (30mins), And then at 3.30pm it is the end of the day”
What will I need to bring with me to lessons?
“You will need to bring your Chromebook and your ordinary pencil case. Your pencil case should have pens, pencils, a ruler and a calculator in it. You also need a green pen for peer marking”

How often do you use Chromebooks in lessons?
“You will use the chromebook in every subject, just some more than others. For example you will use it everyday in Maths but for research and quizzes in Geography and Music”.
Do we get homework? If so, how much and what is it like?
“You do get about four homeworks to complete a week and maybe one over the weekend, but sometimes you get more and sometimes you get less.”
“You get a bit more homework than primary school, and it is best to do it as soon as you get it rather than let it pile up.”
“Most of the time we can complete our homework on our chromebooks”
“We do get homework but not much, most of the time it is a recap of what we have done in the previous lesson.”
What are the teachers like?
“All the teachers are very nice and will listen to you when you need them.”
“The teachers are extremely helpful”

“All of the teachers are really kind. Some of them do things differently to others which I like because we are not stuck with the exact same way of learning each lesson. “

What is form time?
“Form time is when we are with our form and we usually do things such as a school quiz against the other forms”
“Form time is usually about half an hour that you spend with about 30 other children in your year – these are people you will get to know very well. You read and do activities at this time and sometimes get to have a quiet chat amongst yourselves.”
“Form time is the time you spend in your form, this is where announcements are made, registration etc., You will begin your day in your form time and end your day in form time, except on Friday when we get to go home early!”
“Form time is at either end of the day, when your teacher will address any activities or events and notices to your form”
What if I can’t make any friends?
“You can take part in activities during lunch time that you like, and you could find someone with the same interests as you.”
“If you just act like yourself you will make friends in no time”
“There will be someone who is similar to you, trust me.”
“You should be able to make friends no matter who you are as there are so many people in your year. But, if you are struggling, you can always go to a teacher or your form tutor”
“It is very unlikely you won’t make friends here at KWS, but if you do struggle our Student Leadership are always here to help, and will always be here to have your back.”
“All students at KWS are very friendly and will help you find new friends. There are also many break time clubs that will help you find friends as well.”
What if I don’t fit in?
“Everybody will fit in because we are all different and we are all respected”
“Everyone fits as the school community welcomes everyone no matter who they are”
“You will always find someone who has the same things in common with you.”
“Sometimes you might feel like you don’t fit in but that’s good, because everyone is different”
“Everyone is accepted at KWS and everyone will let you join in.”
Do you have any sports competitions?
“We have a whole school rugby team, football team and netball team.”
“Yes, in KWS we enter many sports competitions like athletics, rugby tournaments, football tournaments, netball tournaments and many more. Everybody has the opportunity to take part in sports at KWS.”
“Yes, we have many sports competitions because we are a very competitive school. There will be many interform sports competitions led by our PE teacher. We also attend many fixtures in sports you may be interested in.”
Do you do anything special at the end of term?
“We sometimes have big interform sport competitions”
“Yes, we sometimes finish school early and have a form party or something similar”.
“We had an awesome halloween party!”
“Last year we had a Halloween party, and at Christmas we had a Christmas Showcase where there were performances in drama, debating, singing and story-telling”
“For National Pi Day we solved riddles around the school and the winners threw a pie at the Maths Teachers!”
