Harpenden Secondary Education Trust intends to open the Katherine Warington School on Lower Luton Road, Batford in September 2018.
The Katherine Warington School will take in up to 180 Year 7 students in September 2018 and 180 students in subsequent years until 2022 when a 6th form will also open at the school. By 2023 when the school is full, it will accommodate 1150 students (250 of which are 6th form students). The school will be a state funded single academy.
The overall aim of the Trust is to provide school places in a new school with comparable academic standards to the existing ‘outstanding’ secondary schools in Harpenden. The Katherine Warington School will deliver a traditional but innovative curriculum, preparing students to thrive in a changing world. The school will be fully inclusive, nonselective and open to all children and families from the local communities.
The Harpenden Secondary Education Trust is a partnership of the three outstanding secondary schools in Harpenden, Roundwood Park, St George’s and Sir John Lawes, the University of Hertfordshire and Rothamsted Research Centre. The three secondary schools proposed a new school in response to the overwhelming need for another Harpenden secondary school providing high quality education for young people within their local community.
As part of the pre-opening work to become a free school, the Trust is completing an ‘appropriate’ (as set out in Section 10 of the Academies Act, 2010) formal consultation exercise to determine whether they should enter into a Funding Agreement with the Department for Education, pending approval of the Secretary of State. An example of the model funding agreement can be viewed at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/academy-and-free-school-funding-agreements-single-academy-trust
You are invited to attend our Section 10 public consultation event to find out more information. Monday 18th September from 4pm to 8pm at the Plaza, Rothamsted Centre for Research and Enterprise, West Common, Harpenden AL5 2JQ.
